THE SELF EDUCATION LIST OF IMPORTANT TERMS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Special Student Status- A student who is not matriculated for a degree, yet is permitted to register for & take regular degree credited courses.
Mastery Learning- An approach to education or instruction in which the learning objectives are held constant, but the time allowed for attaining those objectives is permitted to vary from student to student; All students are thus enabled to achieve mastery learning of that body of knowledge.
Independent Study- A process which the student is permitted to complete a course of study by learning when and where a student chooses instead of attending regular classes. Independent study by students is guided and evaluated by teachers.
Life Experience Credit- Degree credit awarded by colleges to adults for prior college level learning acquired outside college classrooms. Many colleges systematically evaluate such learning for degree credit and award credit as warranted.
Life Long Learning- Process by which an individual acquires formal & informal education continually throughout adulthood for necessary career development and valuable personal enrichment. Promoted by government & college officials it is a movement to help Americans develop into what some educators call "A learning society".
Cooperation-Working together harmoniously with another person or group.
Employee education- Education and training provided by many employers & government agencies for their employees. Courses offered range from basic office procedures to advanced technical training for scientist and engineers. Many individuals work with such employers for the specific goal of receiving this educational resource.
Progressive education- A movement in education that students learn best when pursuing their own interests and by actual performance or action, and provision for flexibility and initiative in learning on the part of the student.
Self-fulfilling prophecy- An expectation of whether a person will succeed or fail in some attempt. This expectation may influence or even decide the results.
Self-study - Learning carried out without a teacher; self teaching.
Self-teaching materials- Books, workbooks, or other instructional materials designed to instruct the learner who is working with them unaided by anyone else.
Education- Any process, formal or informal, that helps develop the potential, knowledge, cap-abilities, behavior patterns, and values of an individual.
